Description:
This mod allows the customer to enter free text into input field(s) when adding a product to their basket.

Features:

• Each product may have any number of text input fields
• Text entered by the customer is recorded with the order details
• Each text input field can:
  • be a single line input field or a multiple line input box (of any size);
  • be set as required or optional;
  • have an optional character limit (single line input fields only).
• Mod is easy to use. Installation instructions have been carefully prepared and are easy to follow. Database changes are automatically applied.
• If this is the first mod you are installing to your store you can make use of "Quick Upload" files and instructions (only for CubeCart 3.0.14 and 3.0.15, at the time this post was written), making the installation process much quicker and easier

There is a similar mod like this, but I was having problems with it. The modder and I was emailing back and forth couple times, but then he suddenly stop responding to my emails.

So now, I am looking for another similar mod to fill my requirements. I will give this Text Input Fields for Products mod a try. Thanks Stevie for your input!!!

Its no big deal now, I was just wondering. I am not transferring my personal store to v4 right away. Around New Years, I will start the process in converting my store.

I love this mod. A perfect solution for my web design and VPS / Dedicated hosting business. I just wish the mod had additional form stuff such as radio button, menu drop down, ect.... I would then be in my glory. However, the text input fields will do just fine for now. Thanks for this great mod.

I've had a small look at the CubeCart v4 source code.... I don't think *any* mods will be immediately compatible with it. I think they will all need to be re-released.

Have a look at my store, there is a "Radio Product Options and Checkboxes" mod, plus many other product option mods!

I have a long "Title" as seen in the attachment below. What I am wondering is... can I move some of the title down to the next line that way there is more room for the user the write in the text area?

Yes, with customizations to your product template file (styleTemplates/content/viewProd.tpl) you can control the width of the left and right columns. You can also change the width of the text input fields.

For example, if you wanted to increase the width of the text input fields, change this line:

    <input type="text" name="{VAL_INPUT_NAME}" value="{VAL_INPUT_VALUE}" maxlength="{VAL_INPUT_MAXLEN}" />

To this:

    <input type="text" name="{VAL_INPUT_NAME}" value="{VAL_INPUT_VALUE}" maxlength="{VAL_INPUT_MAXLEN}" style="width: 250px;" />

You can also increase the width of the multiple line text box, change this line:

CODE

    <textarea name="{VAL_INPUT_NAME}" rows="{VAL_INPUT_ROWS}">{VAL_INPUT_VALUE}</textarea>

To this:

CODE

    <textarea name="{VAL_INPUT_NAME}" rows="{VAL_INPUT_ROWS}" style="width: 250px;">{VAL_INPUT_VALUE}</textarea>

(Note that the 250 in the above lines can be changed to whatever you want...)

Also to restrict the width of the left column, find these two lines:

        {VAL_INPUT_TITLE} {VAL_SHOW_REQ}<br/>

And modify the first line as shown below:

    <td width="300px">
        {VAL_INPUT_TITLE} {VAL_SHOW_REQ}<br/>

Or if you've got a fluid layout you could change it to this:

    <td width="50%">
        {VAL_INPUT_TITLE} {VAL_SHOW_REQ}<br/>

Nicholas - Al will be adding this feature to CubeCart 4 at some stage. So unless someone needs this feature desperately, before it is added by Al, then I probably won't write this same mod for CubeCart 4.

Hi Estelle,
Nobody knows when some time is.... that's what alarms me (can't find another word for it....)
I've allready opened a topic here with the same request: http://www.cubecartforums.org/index.php?showtopic=2138
As long as I don't have this modification I can't open my new shop because I have so many products that needs a Text input field.
I can't catch this problem with the product options in this case.

I really hope there will be a release very very soon or someone will make a modifications for CC4.

This mod has now been released for CubeCart 4. I didn't plan to release it, but it was a popular request and the development was eventually sponsored by a client, big thanks go to Antony Weeks!

Text Input Fields for Products for CubeCart 4

I'm interested in this for a small enhancement to the Add/Edit Orders mod. What I want is to be able to independently activate the mod in the AEO admin section vs the customer's view of the product page.

I intend to use this as a preliminary means to "sell" refunds and I need a text input field to record the original cart_order_id and reason for refund.
